Honda's latest creation will be tested at NASA's 25 hrs of Thunderhill

Every year since 2003, NASA 25 hour race sponsored by the US Air Force, will take place in the first weekend of  December  at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows California.  Considered as the longest race in the US, over 75 teams will compete this year 25 Hours of Thunderhill.  

Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Ford  and Toyota are some of the manufacturers to field teams for the challenge.   Major media publications such as Car and Driver, Road and Track, including Primedia directly participate in this exciting event.

Team Opak  Racing – Spoon Sports will be joined by a Road and Track driver with GT Channel to video document the whole event.         

This is a significant milestone for the recently released Honda Civic TypeR .   As this will be the first time this model will enter a grueling race this long.   

Our team has put together top notch drivers with dedicated support team to capture the class win.  

DRIVER LINE UP

TYLER MCQUARRIE,  a Formula Russell and a Russell Triple Crown champion, Tyler is the only third American to win  the Worls Scholarship in England.  He spent 2 years racing Formula Vauxhall in Europe. As one of the top multi purpose driver, Tyler raced USF2000, American Lemans, USAC Sprint cars and NASCAR including Formula Drift and has since become one of the top drift drivers in the country.   Tyler is an instructor at Jim Russell racing  school since  1996.  He was featured in documentaries on Discovery Channel and MTV as well as  interviews with ESPN and SpeedTV.

SAM MITANI, a Japanese-American best  known as International Editor for Road & Track Magazine.  He travels the world test- drive cars.   He currently writes a monthly column for XaCAR, and regularly contributes to Best Car, two of Japan’s most popular auto magazine.    As if professional writer and race car driver, he participated in races around the world;  Dakar Rally, Trans Peninsula Rally and Baja 2000.

ANGELO ZUCCHI,   has been racing Spec Miata for many years. He is a veteran of the 2005 and 2006 NASA 25hr of Thunderhill where in 2006, he won his class in the 25hr endurance race at Thunderhill Raceway. in 2007, he took the Grand Touring Lite Champion with SCCA. The  2003 and 2004 were great years for Angelo, he was the champion with the West Coast Shootout Championship in Thunderhill driving the GT4 Alfa Romeo.  Same car allowed him several first places finishes and championships from 1987 to 1997.  He lives in  NAPA Valley. He  works with Jim Russell Mechanics Training Program Instructor.

JEFF WESTPHAL,  Just completed his first year of pro racing in Formula F2000 where he finished 3rd overall and fought for rookie of the year honors.  Prior to F2000, Jeff competed in the Jim Russell Series finishing 3rd overall in 2006 by way of 3 pole positions, 2 wins, 1 track record and 14 top 5’s.  As well as 3 wins and 1 second out of 4 races in 2007.  He was also one of the few to qualify for the Red Bull Driver Search at Infineon Raceway Kart Track and finished 26th out of 121 in the semi finals with no prior karting experience.
